Chertsey
Picnic
Dear Fellow WSC Member,
Our Club will
be taking its annual jaunt to Chertsey Meads on Sunday 13th July.
The plan is to meet at the
Club House at 11.00am. Together we will launch as many vessels as we can
and then make our way up stream through Shepperton Lock (so ensure you have a boat licence!) by sail, rowing or outboard to
Chertsey Meads. This year we have at least three riverworthy club rowing boats which will be available for those members
who lack their own boats but fancy rowing to the Meads. We will muster at the Thames Court Pub at about 12.00 noon for
the start of the jaunt/race to the Meads.
For those not intending to
travel by boat, there is ample car parking nearby off Meads Lane Chertsey
Remember to bring your own
food and drink and a tablecloth (and perhaps even a gazebo!)!
Events
On Water:
There will be a series of
boating races are planned following the disasterous conditions for sailing at the recent Regatta.
On Land:
As usual there will be our
highly competative rounders match.
The "Treasurers Eleven" (skippered
by Mr Ian Curtis) will be eager to build upon the victory which they won over the "Commodore's Eleven" last year (the series
currently stands at 2 -1). This year we have a new Commodore, Mr Hugh Hefferland, who is a fine sportsman and a fierce
competitor. (Few will forget Hugh's pitching last year, particularly those, including Harvey the dog, who had to retreive
it from the long grass.) The game will be strictly umpired by a man in a white coat. (The Treasurer hopes that
the umpire is Bill again) Our lovely new Lady - Commodoress, Mrs Hannah Hefferlanf, will kindly present the Mead
Cup to the winners and prizes to both teams. We hope to obtain a small bottle of genuine nead for the
runners-up.
A Very Warm Invitation to You All!
After the rigours of the
annual Regatta this jaunt is a pleasant extension of events
.
All members, family, friends
and pets are most warmly invited. It should be a wonderful day out. Phone Tim Carter (020 8977 1587) if you
have any questions.
We look forward to seeing
you all there.
