The local newspapers carried the story of the arson attack we suffered on August bank holiday Monday.
A picture of the fire damaged skiff Maggie was featured on the front page of the Surrey Herald.
The club reeled, then rallied, and members spontaneously turned up to begin a massive clear up and recovery operation.
The good news:
Maggie was partially repaired - enough to take part and come second in the Great River Race. Congratulations.
The Club facilities are now better than ever.
New security gates and locks guard our field against any more thefts.
The Nissen hut boat store has been completely refurbished, painted white inside with new power and lighting.
An area has been set aside for members to work on their boats inside. New steel fire proof and theft proof double doors have
been fitted. Our secure under cover storage is now better than ever.
A container has now been installed to provide secure storage for engines and other small valuable items. This is
fitted with a security lock as well as chains inside for engines to be locked to individually. Sails, lifejackets,
club equipment like our tressle tables, are also in this store, leaving the Nissen for boats only - and the clubhouse free
of junk!
There has been a massive clear up of the field. Two skip loads of fire damage and accumulated junk have gone. The
field has been freshly cut, and the place is looking very smart.
We had a very succesful Guy Fawkes night with a small fire, a huge array of fireworks, a running BBQ and free mulled
wine.
In the spring the newly cleared clubhouse will be repainted to make it more commfortable and fubctional.
The area around the BBQ is now exposed and will be landscaped for use in our ever more popular functions at the club.
The toilet block is now fully electrified, lights, hot water and showers are all operative.
We are determined to remain a friendly and relaxed ( even casual) recreational sailng and boating club. Our facilities
are now top draw for activity and fun afloat and ashore.
We are looking forward to a great summer season, with sailing and rowing as well as our very popular 'jaunts' by river
to riverside pubs ( for Sunday lunches) or open spaces for BBQs and games.
New boating, family and even social members welcomed ( subject to rules for proposer and seconder). Contact the
Commodore on 01932 259 661.
Membership is currently from only £42 p.a.
New Building Facilty Planned
We have members who are keen to build their own boats from scratch. This is an appropriate activity for a 'recreational
boating club'. A new covered area is planned specifically as a 'building shed' which members can use in turn,
for building or for major indoor repair works. Keen builders woud be welcomed as new members.
